The last few weeks at Cookie Cafe have been fun as usual. The numbers have been 429, 400, 319, 392, 329, 325, 332 and this week 396. Parents come to help and spend time talking and listening to the Midshipmen. We have a well-oiled machine in how it comes together and how you parents are sending your cookies on time, and wrapped and boxed just right. Students now come to help us unwrap the cookies Thursday morning (a 3-hour process), the wife of a professor shows up often, the wife of the Academic Dean, and of course parents are regulars. One mom gets busy in the morning baking cookies so we have the wonderful smell of fresh cookies in the air. Her favorite cookies for baking are funfetti. Gene and I start our day at 4:45am and leave our home at 6:30am. It is well worth it, judging from the looks on the students' faces. Muffi spends countless hours in the background organizing the groups and answering questions, printing off tent cards, sending out the packaging slips for the boxes and keeping the website up to date. Lisa Pino comes each week and takes beautiful photos of everyone so parents across th country can see how happy their kids are.
We have settled into a good routine, and the students expect their cookies and time to visit with their friends. I do not see them becoming complacent, they know very well that each week they are receiving love from the families. I think I should write up how this works for other groups/colleges/universities to incorporate. This has evolved into an amazing system. Most of us who put so much time into Cookie Cafe will never meet, but we have become good friends and are all needed as a team to make this function so efficient and smooth.
I would be very interested in hearing from the parents' side of this organization. We would like to get your perspective.
What do your Mids say about Cookie Cafe?
Tell about your baking and shipping experiences.
We write about Cookie Cafe at Land Hall on Thursday afternoons but there is another side to this as you all know.
Let's hear from you and we will put the comments on the Cookie Cafe News Page - your thoughts could very well help the future of Cookie Cafe.
I know both Muffi and I would really enjoy that. E-mail muffi@kpcookiecafe.com
