Dear Carol,
With you and Gene off for a much-deserved break this week, everything went off without a hitch. I brought a dear friend with me and we got there at 7:30 a.m. Mike and Lorene Roth from Okinawa got there about 8 with their daughter, Casey, helping also. By 10:30 we were pretty much set up with all that help. My friend, Karen, had a great time and got right into it. We had a good assortment of cookies, but we are still too heavy on the chocolate chip near the end of the day.
From Pennsylvania, Kristy Sindorf arrived with a suitcase of cookies, and Bill & Galina Leonard came with several apple cakes, lemon bars and a bunch of cut up apples. It was great.
We used about 2/3rds of the freezer and put some back in, so the freezer has a fair amount in it still. All broken cookies were put in the refrigerator like Michael had suggested and we hadn't left before the late comers found them and were enjoying them and the last of the milk. All the broken cookies from last week were gone, so the kids found them.
All and all, with all your good training, we did fine. We had over 300 mids/visitors. And we had a load of seniors, more than other days. And wait until you see the hooks and the new curtain on the window. That got done at the parent meeting Wednesday night. What a great group of "can-do" parents.
Funny thing, the Coast Guard stationed on campus found us. They were looking where to pay and couldn't believe it was all free and they could partake also. They had no idea about Cookie Cafe. The crock pot with the allspice and cinnamon aroma wafting out the window drew them to Land Hall - they just followed their noses!! They said they had to find out where that great smell was coming from.
With all the help cleaning up, we were done at about 5:10. I still don't know how you do this every week!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love, Martha McCann
