With the tantalizing smells of Mom Guest's warm cider, gingerbread cookies baking and pear crisp just out of the Land Hall oven, almost 500 midshipmen streamed into Cookie Cafe, sighing while taking deep breaths. Such reminders of home. Thank you to the Band Co. parents who sponsored today's Holiday Cookie Cafe. Your confections were wonderful and showed that you all "hit all the right notes" in bringing happiness to the Regiment. We never know what a box from our moms will hold, such as Rice Krispy treat "Turkey Legs." Who knew?

While we had gingerbread house-making kits available for the students, the structure of this trimester's schedule didn't leave them enough time to take up the project while in Land Hall. So off they went with the kits and we hope some of their creations show up in Whiley Hall.

This was our last CC for the calendar year since next week the New York Parents Association will provide an incredible dinner and dessert experience for the entire Regiment - all 700 midshipmen (they will not eat the regular Delano Hall fare) in addition to festive decorations and a present for each student. It is quite an undertaking and we thank the NY parents for this Herculean effort that is so appreciated by the entire student body.

We should take a moment to remember all our midshipmen who will be away as "A" spliters during this celebratory time of year. They are learning to get ready for a life away from their families and it must be fairly lonely at times. How amazing are our Kings Pointers, be it at sea or in the military?

Safe travels to all our mids while they travel home to spend the holidays with those near and dear. See you all next year. Hopefully we will be able to share pictures of Capt. David Taliaferro and his unit from the Middle East.
